Good Eats: Java Cafe

No doubt, there are lots of places to grab a bite and a beverage in South Maui. I stumbled upon this little gem while seeking out a fast, cheap and hearty breakfast spot that wasn’t coming from a drive-thru or convenience store. Upon entering Java Cafe the rich aroma of coffee fills the air and lively patrons and friendly staff are moving to and fro. The cozy cafe is well stocked with pastries, bagels, Hawaiian blend coffees and hot food items. I was blown away when I saw the prices — the breakfast menu ranges from $2.25-$8.99. Hot drinks include coffee or tea, espresso, lattes, their well-known Mexilatte and Mexiccino and cafe mocha 12oz range from $2.45-$3.75.

On the go and craving a fresh, delicious and hearty breakfast? These options are generous in serving size, come with a side of potato chips and are affordably priced.
The Belgian-style waffle is light, crisp and perfectly cooked. When asked if I wanted strawberries, blueberries or bananas I asked if I could have them all and there you have it, for a great value and cost of only $5.99.
There are a good amount of pastries to pick from as well including muffins, strudel, scones and etc. These go great with their signature Mexilatte.
My favorite is the Breakfast Special which essentially is a hot breakfast sandwich. You get to choose your bread and the ingredients that suit your taste. I pick the scrambled egg, crispy bacon and cheese on croissant. For $4.99 the hot, cheesy, salty goodness is a great way to start the day, also comes with a side of chips and salsa.

They also offer wraps, paninis, flatbread pizzas and salads but I’ve only stopped in for breakfast (the tacos and lox are also great); they are apparently diving into the cold pressed juice business as well. If you’re in the area and looking for something to quench your thirst and your hunger for an affordable price be sure to stop by.
