At 6:23 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, emergency responders were called to an unresponsive male pulled from the ocean at a North Shore beach known as, “Camp One,” off of Stable Road in Spreckelsville.
Paia firefighters and police arrived at around 6:30 p.m. and took over CPR from beachgoers. Paramedics arrived a short time later and provided advanced care life support, but despite all life-saving efforts the male victim died at the scene.
The male victim was a Maui man in his late 50s. He was found floating nearshore by a swimming beachgoer and brought to shore, where other bystanders initiated CPR.
