The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 7:30 p.m.
At 4:33 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over Kihei and extending into the upcountry area around Kula. Rain was falling at a rate of up to an inch an hour.
Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Kihei, Ulupalakua, Keokea, Wailea, Makena, and Kula.
NWS suggests that residents and visitors should stay away from streams, drainage ditches, and low lying areas prone to flooding.
In addition, rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility, and poor braking action.
It is also strongly suggested that you do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
