No Tsunami Threat Following 7.0M Mexico Earthquake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawai`i following a powerful earthquake near the coast of Chiapas, Mexico.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center notes that the 7.0magnitude earthquake occurred at 9:36 p.m. Hawai`i Time.

PTWC reports the quake shook at a depth of 111.5 kilometers.

According to the United States Geological Survey the quake shook 5.3 miles southwest of Tajumulco, Guatemala; 7.9 miles northeast of San Pablo, Guatemala; 9.7 miles west-northwest of San Marcos, Guatemala; 11.4 miles west-northwest of San Pedro Sacatepequez, Guatemala; and 11.4 miles northeast of Malacatan, Guatemala.

No reports of injuries near the epicenter were immediately reported.
