On Friday, July 14th, 2017, at 6:06 a.m., Napili and Lahaina firefighters received an alarm for a structure fire at a residence under construction in the Mahana Estates development in Kapalua.
Napili firefighters arrived at 6:17 a.m. to find a fire in a nearly completed 480 square foot attached garage. Fire crews had the fire contained at 6:22 a.m., and a Fire Investigator was requested.
Fire Investigators believed the cause of the fire was the self-ignition of rags containing wood finishing products. The fire spread from those rags to other contents of the garage. Smoke and fire damage was estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents.
Three companies of firefighters from Napili and Lahaina and a battalion chief responded to this fire.
