Heavy rains Upcountry prompt Flood Advisory for Maui

At 1:47 PM, radar indicated heavy rain over Upcountry Maui from Haiku to Keokea. Rain rates were 1 to 2 inches per hour with the higher rates near Haiku and Haliimaile. The Upcountry rainfall is expected to continue through the afternoon hours. Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Haliimaile, Pauwela, Kipahulu, Paia, Makawao, Keokea, Haiku-Pauwela, Huelo, Kula, Pukalani, Nahiku and Hana.

The National Weather Service has ISSUED a FLOOD ADVISORY for MAUI ISLAND in effect until August 21, 2017 / 445pm.

A Flood Advisory means that nuisance flooding is occurring or imminent. A Flood Advisory may be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning if flooding worsens and poses a threat to life and property.

This advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
