MPD Crime Reduction Unit Snags Thief

On August 8, members of the Maui Police Department’s Crime Reduction Unit were assigned to the Twin Falls area in Haiku in response to numerous reports of recent car break-ins.  

While MPD was there, a male was observed reaching into a rental vehicle after breaking a window.  As officers approached, the male tried to run away but was quickly apprehended.  A vehicle the male came in was also stopped at the scene. 

The vehicle was being operated by a 30 year old female from Wailuku who had three juvenile passengers with her at the time.     

The male was identified as 35 year old Marcus Hersom of Wailuku.  He was arrested for the offenses of Unauthorized Entry into Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, Criminal Property Damage in the Fourth Degree, Resisting Arrest and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor in the Second Degree.  He was released pending further investigation on all charges. 

The female driver of the vehicle and her children were released at the scene pending further investigation.
