California Woman Pulled from the Ocean at Makena Landing

At 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, emergency crews in South Maui responded to an unresponsive female pulled from the water at Makena Landing in Makena.

Wailea firefighters arrived at 12:41 p.m. and found the female victim breathing on her own with bystanders tending to the woman on the beach. Paramedics arrived and treated the woman before transporting her to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.

The victim, a 57-year-old woman visiting from Fremont, California had been snorkeling in the area and was found by a family member floating face down and unresponsive. The family member brought the woman to shore where a nurse and a firefighter here on vacation administered immediate CPR. After less than a minute of CPR, the woman regained a pulse and began breathing on her own.
