UPDATE: Honoapi`ilani Highway Reopens Following Brush Fires

UPDATE The brush fires burning earlier along Honopi`ilani Highway have been extinguished. At around 12:35 p.m., firefighters deemed the flames extinguished and began to leave the scene. Traffic on the Pali has reopened and will take time to equalize back to normal. Motorist should still expect delays. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Honoapi`ilani Highway is closed to traffic between mile-marker 7 and the scenic lookout due to several brush fires on the makai side of the highway in Ma`alaea.

The Maui Police Department reports that emergency crews are on scene.
