What a hidden gem this is… the Kaluanui Estate was built in 1917 and now hosts an array of exhibitions, 500 field trips annually, 300 classes a year, a glassblowing studio and gallery gift shop. From the vibrant green lush grass, to unique tropical flora and fauna, to the tantalizing exhibits on-site this was a wonderful stop-over during a day trip upcountry.
“Our mission of unlocking creativity through exceptional visual arts education and enhancing the endeavor through the preservation of historic Kaluanui Estate.”
Currently on-site, you’ll discover a creative and interactive pop-up exhibit by Cudra Clover. Entitled “Hysteria,” this stimulating exhibit that closes on April 13, 2018, showcases the artist’s abstract and biomorphic works — on silk and presented via multimedia formats within two rooms of the gallery. The pieces are inspired by the current world we live in and ironically make for great visual captures, photos and social media posts. However, the technicolor “womb room” was inspired by the overstimulation created by technology, social media and overindulgence.
Admission into the gallery is free and donations are gladly accepted. The Hui also showcases great events for holidays, night markets, is a wonderful place for an afternoon picnic and a great location for your wedding. They also feature specialty tours, hold unique events, offer volunteer opportunities and so much more. This truly is an amazing place to relax, enjoy and invigorate your senses.
