Maui Electric will need to perform an urgent pole replacement and related work that will require a road closure on Friday, June 15  from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., near 1202 Makawao Avenue (after the Polli’s parking lot) to Brewer Road. Crews will be working on site until 4:30 p.m. and during this time Brewer Road will be used as a detour route for all vehicular traffic coming from Hā‘ikū to Makawao.

Crews will then return later that evening Friday, June 15 to Saturday, June 16, from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., to work in a Maui Electric manhole that will require the closure of the intersection at Makawao Avenue and Olinda Road.

For safety reasons, the affected roads need to be closed to traffic during these times while crews safely work as quickly as possible to complete the replacement. Should an emergency arise, emergency vehicles will continue to have access to the area.

Motorists should expect traffic delays in these immediate areas during these respective times. Electrical service in this immediate area is not expected be impacted and the Makawao Third Friday event scheduled will not be impacted.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this necessary pole replacement to continue serving the area,” said Gary Nieborsky, manager of transmission and distribution at Maui Electric.

For questions about the work, the public can contact Maui Electric at 871-7777 and when prompted press 1.
