Maui Ocean Safety and Fire Personnel Respond to Near Drowning at DT Fleming Beach

On Sunday, October 11, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Maui Ocean Safety and Fire personnel responded to a swimmer possibly injured in the shorebreak at DT Fleming Beach.

Ocean Safety personnel were alerted to bystanders assisting a male party out of the water and quickly responded. The male victim was reportedly unconscious and lifesaving efforts commenced.

Napili firefighters and Medics arrived shortly after and assisted with these efforts. The victim eventually regained a pulse and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center by ambulance in critical condition with a suspected
spinal injury.

The victim is described as a 54-year-old male visitor from Washington State.
