No Tsunami Generated by 6.5M Solomon Islands Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawai`i following a powerful earthquake in the Solomon Islands Thursday evening.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center notes that the 6.5 magnitude earthquake occurred at 5:27 p.m. Hawai`i Time.

According to the United States Geological Survey the quake shook 82.3 miles west of Kirakira, Solomon Islands; 229.2 miles west-northwest of Honiara, Solomon Islands; 437.9 miles southeast of Luganville, Vanuatu; 595.7 miles west-northwest of Arawa, Papua New Guinea; and 605.6 miles southeast of Port-Vila, Vanuatu.
