Today is another hot, sticky, hazy day. Temps climbing into the mid to upper 80’s. Winds light and variable from 5 – 15mph. Building cloud cover in the afternoon due to daytime heating. Possibility of isolated downpours from those clouds.
Surfwise, today the SSW is holding in the waist-chest high range at the better south exposures of Maui County. A new SSW shows today through Friday, with another SSW building in over the weekend.
UV index at 12 (extreme exposure level)
Sunset tonight at 6:59pm
Sunrise tomorrow at 5:46am
For the weekend, increasingly moist and unstable air will get drawn up from the south starting Friday and continuing through Sunday. Showers are expected to increase as a disturbance approaches the state. Some of those showers could be heavy with thunderstorms also possible. Here in Maui County we have a lesser chance of severe weather compared to Kauai and Oahu (they will be closest to the disturbance) however, we cannot rule it out. Daytime heating and sea breezes could also lead to localized downpours. Be aware that lightning, ponding and poor driving conditions could occur this weekend.
On Memorial Day we expect a return to trade winds with drier, more stable air being ushered in. Cross your fingers the forecast holds true!
