Fausto is expected to pass into the Central Pacific

Latest on FAUSTO: Tropical Storm Fausto is expected to pass into the Central Pacific Hurricane Center’s area of responsibility sometime on Friday. Currently, no coastal watches or warnings are posted and it is no threat to land. So far, effects to the Hawaiian Islands are unclear – we may get an increase in rain but winds are not expected to be a problem at this time.

Tropical Storm Fausto has winds near 45 mph moving west at about 15 mph. This general direction is expected to continue with some increase in speed over the next couple of days. Slow strengthening is forecasted during that time as well. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 80 miles.

After 48 hours, Fausto is expected to weaken. According to the National Hurricane Center, the new intensity forecast calls for a slower strengthening and a quicker weakening than the previous forecast.

Hurricanes are notoriously hard to predict, so it’s always best to be prepared.
