We can see the first batch of WALI related deep tropical moisture just to the south of the island of Hawaii. It is expected to spread across the island chain bringing the potential for heavy rain, flash flooding and a slight chance of thunderstorms through Monday. Gradual intensification of showers expected for Maui today – mainly for windward areas – although lee spots don’t need as much rain to flood so the potential for flooding is island-wide. Another disturbance approaching the W half of the state is expected to intensify the situation later today.
The moderate trade winds will continue through the rest of the weekend and into Monday with clouds and showers focusing over windward and mountain areas. The trades will regain strength and bring back a more stable weather regime across the main Hawaiian islands by the late Tuesday and into Wednesday next week.
