12-year-old medevaced after bicycle accident on Lanai

At 3:43 p.m. yesterday afternoon, firefighters responded to the clubhouse at Cavendish golf course for a 12-year-old male unresponsive.

Lanai firefighters arrived 9 minutes later and learned it was a bicycle accident. Paramedics and police were already on scene treating the boy, who is a Lanai resident. He was riding with friends when the accident happened. The boy was found lying in a ditch, unresponsive but breathing. It’s unclear how the crash occurred.

Emergency crews called in a medevac helicopter that landed right on the golf course. The boy was airlifted to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
