The National Weather Service has ISSUED a FLOOD ADVISORY for THE ISLAND OF MAUI in effect until 9:45 pm. At 6:40 PM radar showed persistent moderate to heavy showers along the windward slopes of both Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains. Stream gages indicate elevated water levels and a gage on the Honopou stream upslope from Huelo recently indicated a rapid rise in water levels. Locations in the advisory include Paia, the Hana Coast and slopes and Windward West Maui.
A Flood Advisory means that nuisance flooding is occurring or imminent. A Flood Advisory may be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning if flooding worsens and poses a threat to life and property.
This advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.Follow @mauiwatch
