Today marks the beginning of hurricane season for Hawaii

A poorly organized yet persistent area of weak low pressure located about 1150 miles southeast of the Big Island of Hawaii is producing sporadic showers and thunderstorms. Upper level winds are not conducive for further development as the system tracks slowly toward the west.

* Formation chance through 48 hours, low, near 0 percent elsewhere, no tropical cyclones are expected through early Wednesday.

Today marks the beginning of the official hurricane season in the central north Pacific. The tropical weather outlook indicates the potential for future tropical cyclone development and/or current tropical cyclone activity in the Central Pacific Hurricane Center area of responsibility.

The names to be used in the central north Pacific in 2015 are as follows: Ela, Halola, Iune, Kilo, Loke, Malia, and Niala.
