Category Four Hurricane Olaf moves into the Central Pacific

At 11:00 PM the center of Hurricane Olaf was located about 1175 miles ESE of Hilo, Hawaii. Olaf is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph and this motion is expected to continue tonight. A turn toward the west-northwest is forecast on Tuesday followed by a turn toward the northwest on Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 150 mph with higher gusts. Olaf is a category four hurricane on the saffir-simpson Hurricane wind scale. Some additional strengthening is forecast Tonight and Tuesday. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible Tuesday night and Wednesday.

SURF: Large swells generated by Olaf will begin to arrive along East facing shores of the main Hawaiian Islands over the next couple of days. Resultant surf will be large potentially life-threatening and damaging.
