Nora continues to move toward the west and intensify

At 5:00 AM the center of Tropical Storm Nora was located about 990 miles ESE of Hilo, Hawaii. Nora is moving toward the west near 14 mph. A general westward motion with a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected through early Nonday with a turn toward the northwest forecast by late Monday and early Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected during the next 24 hours and Nora is forecast to become a hurricane by tonight followed by some weakening early Tuesday.
