TS Nora strengthens as it nears the Central Pacific

Eastern North Pacific Tropical Storm Nora is strengthening as it nears the Central Pacific basin. Nora is centered about 1245 miles (2005 km) east-southeast of South Point, Hawaii, moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h). This general motion, with some decrease in forward speed, is expected during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening during the next 48 hours is forecast, and Nora could become a hurricane by Sunday night.
