Paia Coffee Shop Ukulele Player Comes Full Circle With Hollywood Performance

The Maui man discovered in a Paia coffee shop has come full circle after unknowingly playing a song from reggae superstar- Matisyahu and being joined by him in a viral sing-a-long that went around the world. Clint “Kekoa” Alama became an internet sensation garnering nearly 2.9 million views on Facebook. Matisyahu invited him to perform the song they sang together, “One Day”, at a performance at the Hollywood Palladium August 12. The event was a SOLD OUT show with an estimated attendance between 3500-4000.

The artist Musical Director and Bass Player Stu Brooks said, “The show was amazing. Kekoa was great.”

The invitation didn’t come without its share of baggage as Kekoa revealed that he had some legal trouble that would prevent him from traveling. Kekoa was wanted for a probation violation and attempted to take the high road by turning himself in. The artist- Matisyahu continued to support Kekoa by offering to talk to court officials to temporarily release him from jail to perform. The County Prosecutor supported the once in a lifetime opportunity with conditions. Judge Rhonda Loo presided over his case.

We hope this opportunity provides Kekoa with a wider view of the world and the spark to turn his life around and back on track for his community. Best of luck for the future!
