The NWS has issued a flash flood advisory for Maui County

The National Weather Service has continued the FLASH FLOOD WATCH for MAUI COUNTY, in effect until Monday afternoon.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.

An abundant tropical moisture associated with former Tropical Cyclone Howard will spread from east to west across the island chain Sunday and Monday. An upper level trough north of the area will dig southward on Sunday and cause the atmosphere to destabilize as moisture from Howard moves through. The combination of the unstable atmosphere and the abundant moisture will result in conditions that are conducive for flooding rain and thunderstorms.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE WEATHER FORECAST AND HAVE A RELIABLE WAY TO GET WARNINGS FOR YOUR LOCATION. BE PREPARED TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION IF FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS ARE ISSUED. CAMPERS AND HIKERS SHOULD CONSIDER RESCHEDULING THEIR OUTING TO A TIME WHEN WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO BE MORE FAVORABLE.

REMEMBER…IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RAINING HEAVILY WHERE YOU ARE FOR FLASH FLOODING TO OCCUR.
