The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Maui County effective until Wednesday afternoon. This is due to a very moist and unstable air mass interacting with an upper level trough. This will result in some unsettling weather and potential for flooding over the eastern part of the island chain through Wednesday including Maui County. The mix of deep tropical moisture and an upper level trough will result in a threat of heavy rainfall and flooding.
The Maui County Civil Defense agency advises the public to reconsider hiking Maui’s trails as flash flooding may happen abruptly. They also recommend campers to reconsider camping at Maui’s camp sites around the island once the weather changes to a move favorable pattern.
