At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Monday, Maui Fire Department firefighters were called to reports of a brush fire in the area of upper Kanaio.

On scene crews confirmed an active brushfire in rough terrain that made it difficult to access and determine it’s size.

As of 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, approximately two acres of heavy brush has burned and is nearly contained.

There are structures in the area, but no threats to them at this time.

MFD has two engines, two tankers and Air 1 working on extinguishment of the fire.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
