A single vehicle traffic collision over the weekend left one man dead.
The Maui Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 6:30 p.m. on Honoapiilani Road near Omaikai Place in Napili.
The vehicle was traveling northbound on Lower Honoapiilani Road when it veered right and collided head on into a bridge just south of Omaikai Place.
Authorities say the operator and lone occupant of the vehicle became unresponsive while being checked on by first responders. He was stabilized and transported to the Maui Medical Center and was later transported to the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu where he died of his injuries.
The man has been identified as Frank Mobus, a 65-year-old male from New York.
Police say the involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still on-going.
This is Maui County’s seventh fatality this year, as compared to four at the same time last year.
