UPDATE: Flood Advisory and Winter Storm Warnings continued

At 1:08 p.m. radar indicated that heavy rain was persisting over the north and northeast facing slopes and coasts of Maui, with showers also spreading to leeward west Maui. The heaviest rain is banked along the slopes of the west Maui mountains, upslope of communities from Wailuku to Waihee to Kahakuloa to Napili.  Additional heavy rain has spread into the Kipahulu area of Haleakala. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

This advisory includes the entire island of Maui.

Periods of snow will continue along with very cold conditions. Roads leading to the summit will remain covered with snow and ice until temperatures increase. Travel to the summits will remain extremely dangerous and should be avoided until conditions improve. Additional snow accumulation of up to 6 inches possible by this evening.

Haleakala National Park is closed at this time.
