Good Eats: Sugar Beach Bake Shop

Just like a visit to grandma’s house… Sugar Beach Bake Shop is truly a hidden gem nestled along the outskirts of sunny Kihei. Thoughts of visiting my grandmother in the summer mean’t delicious baked goods, freshly made cream pies and delicately crafted savory sandwiches. Similarly, Sugar Beach Bake Shop, located across the street from Kenolio Park and affectionately loved Sugar Beach, is a delightful respite from the various stores, shops and eateries along Kihei Road. After stepping inside you’ll find some of your iconic local favorites including piping hot sugary malasadas, chewy and crispy cookies, fresh lemonade, rich chocolate brownies and an array of sweet, innovative treats for all appetites and diets. Attention to detail means they offer gluten free options, the highest quality ingredients and the treats are made fresh every day. Sticky buns, flaky croissants, macarons and homemade cakes & pies are making my mouth water just reminiscing about the array of bites in-store.

Locally owned and operated, Sugar Beach Bake Shop is a more decadent creation by David and Ululani Yamashiro. The charming and humble local couple also own and operate the fiercely popular Ululani’s Shave Ice. The two embarked on this project to share their love of delicious food like banana bread, musubi and other mouthwatering delights for others to enjoy. The shop is also conveniently located next door to the Ululani’s Kihei location (between the shave ice stand and an ABC Store). So, if shave ice isn’t your craving be sure to stop by the bakery and grab a refreshment and a baked goodie.
