Maui Fire Department crews responded to an area off Hana Highway on Monday for a mountain rescue.

According to officials, MFD was called to what is known as “Commando Trail” shortly after 1 p.m. to aid a man who was suffering from heat exhaustion and who was unable to hike out of the area due to steep and unstable terrain.

Air 1 located the 55-year-old approximately 30 minutes from the trailhead. He was airlifted out and delivered to awaiting medics.
