Welder’s Torch Sparks 2-Acre Brush Fire Near Central Maui Baseyard

At around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Fire crews responded to a brush fire just off Maui Veternas Highway, north of the Central Maui Baseyard.

Officials say that the fire was accidentally started after welders working on piping, sparks were thrown outside of the welding operations. The welders tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher they had on hand but were unable to do so.

The fire was contained at 2:43 pm and called extinguished at 3:53 pm.

Engine 10, Tanker 10 with the assistance of 1 tanker from Mahi Pono responded to this incident.
