Maui Police Release Details of Homeless Man Shot with 12 Gauge Shotgun in Kahului

Detectives from the Maui Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have identified Manuel Nunes Jr. as the offender in a shooting that occurred in the early hours of September 12, 2019.  Nunes Jr. used a twelve gauge shotgun loaded with bird shot to shoot Douglas Balinbin in the upper back and back of his head following an argument between the two. 

Manuel Nunes Jr. was arrested for Attempted Murder second degree, Reckless Endangering first degree, Loaded Firearm on Highway, Place to Keep a Pistol, Place to Keep Ammunition and Ownership/Possession of a Firearm Prohibited.

Also arrested was Blossom Edayen Nunes for Place to Keep Ammunition, Hindering Prosecution first degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Both Manuel Nunes Jr. and Blossom Edayen Nunes remain in custody at this time.

Douglas Balinbin remains at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
