UPDATE: Kahana Fire Extinguished

Updated at 3 p.m.

As of 12:44 p.m. on Thursday, the Kahana Ridge Fire has been extinguished

The Maui Fire Department reports that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Originally posted at 4:55 p.m. on Oct. 23.

As of 3:40 pm, the Kahana fire is 70 percent contained. Crews remaining on the scene include two engine companies, two tankers, and one ladder truck, as well as the Maui Fire Department’s Air One helicopter for water drops.

Fire crews continue to work on fire suppression in hard-to-reach gulch areas, but MFD does not consider the Kahana Ridge Subdivision as being threatened by fire as of this report.

There are no evacuations or major road closures. However, traffic on neighborhood roads in the Kahana area might be impacted as firefighters continue work to fully contain and extinguish the fire.
