High Rise Structure Fire in Kihei Displaces Two


The Maui Fire Department responded to a high rise structure fire at Kihei Beach Resort on 760 S. Kihei Road, shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday.

MFD reports that two occupants are believed to be displaced from the unit of origin. The unit was reportedly unoccupied when upon firefighter arrival. One person assisted from the unit above the fire unit. The fire was contained to the unit of origin on the fifth floor, with smoke damage to the unit above.

Crews brought the blaze under control at 1:32 p.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

South Kihei Road between N. Kihei Rd and Uwapo Road was closed for about two hours due to the fire apparatus and hoses blocking the roadway. The road was opened at approximately 2:30 p.m.
