Maui County Monitoring Report of Japanese Visitor Infected by Coronavirus

Mayor Michael Victorino has been briefed by the Maui Emergency Management Agency and state Department of Health on a report of a Japanese visitor who was diagnosed with the coronavirus.

“We understand the man did not exhibit symptoms while visiting Maui earlier this month, but we are monitoring this situation,” Mayor Victorino said. “My administration is working closely with the state Department of Health to ensure the safety of residents and visitors to the County of Maui.”

“With the help of state health officials and federal partners, we are taking appropriate measures to address the situation.”

“In the meantime, I urge everyone to take common sense precautions. These include washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water, covering your mouth when coughing and sneezing, and staying home when you feel ill. Such measures will also prevent the spread of the common flu too.”

“My administration will keep you updated as accurate information becomes available.”
