MFD Responds to Kapalua Brush Fire

The Maui Fire Department responded to a brush fire mauka of Kapalua Airport just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The blaze continues to burn.

As of 8 p.m., the fire was 30 percent contained and had burned 450 acres.

Employees of a nearby water treatment plant were evacuated from the area, according to MFD officials.

Six engine companies, three MFD tankers, three Choppers, several private dozers and tanks, Department of Land and Natural Resources DOFAW personnel with firefighting equipment, and Department of Transportation firefighters responded to the incident.

MFD reports that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
