The Maui Police Department Traffic Division conducted six roadblocks over the Labor Day holiday weekend in an attempt to “aggressively address impaired driving.”
MPD’s roadblocks resulted in 625 vehicles screened that led to ten DUI arrests, and seven arrested for individuals wanted on warrants or for other traffic crimes. A total of 26 citations were issued at the checkpoints.
Police officials say officers will continue to arrest all impaired drivers on our roadways.
“The goal is to generate voluntary compliance by working with the community to ensure everyone using our roadways can do so safely,” said Lt. Hankins. “The pubic has been well informed that impaired driving is not acceptable and you will be arrested in Maui County.”
