5 Protesters Arrested After Climbing Down Lahaina Water Line Trench

On October 13, 2020 at approximately 12:50 p.m., Lahaina Patrol Officers responded to a Call for Service at the West Maui Land Construction job site located in the area of Hokiokio Place below Honoapiilani Highway.  A gathering of approximately twenty (20) adults and children had converged on the job site, whereupon five (5) adult females climbed down into a trench that was being dug to place water lines within.  All trespassing parties were offered an alternate area to protest; a safe distance away from the heavy machinery, by West Maui Land employees.  The parties, refused to leave the active trenching area, and were subsequently placed under Citizen’s Arrest for Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.  

 The arrested parties, all Lahaina residents, were identified as:

 Uilani Kapu (55)

Lindal Magalianes (57)

Victoria Kahina-Palafox (64)

Kahikalani Niles (35)

Consuelo Apolo-Gonsalvez (47)

 All parties were released after posting bail.
