Maui police arrest 4 suspects in Kahului robbery

On October 20, 2020, the following three (3) people were arrested for Robbery in the First Degree and Theft in the First Degree: 

Andres Alvez-Ortiz (40), of Waiehu, arrested at 4:01 p.m. 

Kai Hoopai (37) of Waihee, arrested at 4:02 p.m. 

Chanel Fontes (29) of Wailuku, arrested at 6:49 p.m. 

Investigation reveals on October 20, 2020, at about 10:30 a.m., a guest at a hotel in Kahului, reported three (3) unknown suspects entered his hotel room, armed with a knife.  The suspects allegedly stole items belonging to the victim, from the room.  The suspects then fled the area within a blue-colored Dodge sedan.  Responding Officers were able to identify the vehicle’s license plate, and, through further investigation, identify and arrest three (3) of the suspects involved. There were no injuries reported or observed. 

On October 22, 2020, Crystle Shishido (35) of Wailuku, was arrested for Robbery in the First Degree and Theft in the First Degree in connection with this investigation. 

The investigation is active and ongoing. 

All parties remain in police custody.
