Maui Police Arrest Husband in Sunday Wailuku Stabbing

The Maui Police Department responded to a residence in Wailuku on Sunday at 6:27 p.m. for a report of a suspected stabbing that had occurred.

Upon arrival, Officers found a 41-year-old female victim with multiple stab wounds and lacerations throughout her body.

The victim’s husband 40-year-old Ricardo “Rico” Tavares was identified as the offender. Tavares also sustained multiple self-inflicted stab wounds and lacerations.

MPD officials say the incident reportedly stemmed from an argument over personal issues.

Both the victim and Tavares were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for medical treatment.

Upon his release from the Maui Memorial Medical Center Ricardo “Rico” Tavares was taken into police custody and was placed under arrest for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree. Bail was set at $1,000,000.00.

The victim has since been released from the Maui Memorial Hospital and is recovering from her injuries. The investigation is still on-going.
